Zbigniew Wrombel
A musician, instrumentalist, composer and arranger. He plays the double bass and bass guitars.
He graduated from the Academy of Music in Poznań, where he attended the double bass class of Professor Piotr Czerwiński. For many years, he has been one of the leading jazz musicians in Poland. He has played in bands such as String Connection, Grupa Warsztat (the winner of Jazz on the Oder festivals), Walk Away, Zbigniew Namysłowski’s Air Condition, Vintage Band Spirituals and Gospel Singers, Classic Jazz Quartet, and many more. He also works with musicians such as Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Krzesimir Dębski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Jarek Śmietana, Tomasz Szukalski, Jan Jarczyk, Artur Dutkiewicz, Adam Wendt, Piotr Baron, Grzegorz Nagórski, Maciej Sikała, Wiesław Prządka, Wojtek Mrozek, Janusz Strobel and Maciej Strzelczyk, as well as singers: Hanna Banaszak, Halina Zimmermann, Justyna Szafran and Janusz Szrom. He has also participated in many jazz festivals and international jazz projects with artists such as Melanie Goerlitz, Keith Dunn, Eb Davies and Jean-Paul Bourelly. On other musical fronts, he has worked with various artistic groups, for example the orchestras of Zbigniew Górny and Wiesław Pieregorólka, Alex Band and Kukla Band. He has also played in the legendary band Marek & Vacek. Zbigniew Wrombel is a universal bassist who plays various bass instruments, from the acoustic double bass to fretted and fretless bass guitars. His varied music interests allow him to freely and willingly navigate diverse styles. He prefers modern acoustic and electronic jazz with a hint of rhythm and blues, funk and Latin American music. He leads his own jazz bands, usually trios and quartets. He also likes to work at recording studios, where he is often invited, not only by jazz musicians.
As a studio musician, he has participated in many sessions with various artists. The list of artists he has worked with is long and includes pop singers, such as Zbigniew Wodecki, Andrzej Zaucha, Ryszard Rynkowski, Vox, Eleni, Krystyna Prońko, Grażyna Łobaszewska, Piotr Schulz, Gabriel Fleszar and Andrzej Cierniewski.
Apart from his concert and studio activities, Zbigniew Wrombel often engages in teaching by conducting classes during music and jazz workshops, for example those organised in Chodzież, Puławy and Pułtusk.
