The authors of the film set themselves the task of showing how up-to-date the music of Poland’s greatest composer is. The main character is a researcher of Chopin’s life and works, jazz singer Marita Alban Juarez, a daughter of a Peruvian man and a Polish woman, who was raised in Poland. Each of the artists featured in the film has been inspired to play Chopin by something different. Leszek Możdżer, for example, says that he experiments with Chopin’s music – he finds single phrases in his pieces, toys with them and then blends them into jazz standards. The American pianist Kevin Kenner, winner of the 1990 Chopin Competition, takes the composer very seriously. He has felt the composer’s influence for years, and this relationship has affected him as much as his bond with his parents or his wife. The film also features a French DJ nicknamed Blackjoy who recorded a dance track based on one of the preludes simply because he was commissioned to do so. “I didn’t know anything about Chopin.
