The Film and Space concert promises to be an exceptional event for all aficionados of space-themed universes and iconic silver screen productions. Our carefully curated repertoire will feature songs from some of the most renowned modern cinematic masterpieces, offering a magical voyage to uncharted galaxies, new worlds, the far reaches of the Universe, and the limitless expanse of musical imagination. Prepare for an evening filled with unique sounds that kindle the imaginations of audiences worldwide, inviting them to embark on interstellar journeys and explore the profound mysteries concealed within the boundless void of space.

The programme will undoubtedly include Richard Strauss’s iconic Sunrise, a sprawling composition well-known to enthusiasts of Space Odyssey. You can also expect a selection of songs from acclaimed productions hailing from the latter half of the 20th century, an era marked by the fervour of space exploration and widespread fascination with astronomy. Additionally, we’ll feature music from contemporary blockbusters that have captured the hearts of countless viewers across the globe. Excerpts from the soundtracks of beloved cinematic classics such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Interstellar will transport the listener’s musical imagination to the farthest corners of the imagined Universe, immersing them in captivating narratives filled with interstellar vessels, uncharted planets, enigmatic extraterrestrial life forms, unforgettable adventures, and other delightful creations characteristic of the science-fiction genre. Moreover, our evening will be enriched by the exceptional compositions of Sleeping at Last, where the cosmos and the myriad phenomena it houses become the backdrop for heartfelt, timeless declarations of love as vast and encompassing as the infinite expanse of the Universe itself. The lyrical pieces, Neptune, with its poignant lament for a lost loved one, and Venus, which evokes subtle longing, offer a deeply poetic vision of the stellar Universe—a boundless realm teeming with human passions and dreams whispered to the stars in the night sky. To round off this extraordinary event, we’ll present selected excerpts from Gustav Holst’s Planets, a magnificent composition comprised of seven movements, each dedicated to a different planet within our Solar System.
