The spotlight will shine on the Dabyeot Youth Wind Orchestra, a remarkable musical ensemble from Hamyang, South Korea. When translated from Korean, the name ‘dabyeot’ evokes imagery of a place bathed in warm sunshine. Established in 2005, the orchestra emerged from the voluntary initiative of young individuals, including elementary, high school, and college students. A pivotal moment for the group occurred when they received an invitation to participate in the JIWEF 2009 festival at the Jeju Art Centre. This performance served as a breakthrough, leading the way for the orchestra’s involvement in numerous significant events, both domestically and internationally. At present, the ensemble comprises around 80 members, united by their shared mission to promote and foster the growth of wind orchestras worldwide. During the event, the orchestra will perform works by renowned Japanese composers, including Toda Akira, Satoshi Yagisawa, Toshio Mashima, and Daisuke Shimizu. The skilled musicians, wielding wind instruments with finesse, will transport the audience on a captivating journey, providing a fascinating glimpse into the rich culture of the Far East.
