The Second Countrywide Composition Competition

The Second Countrywide Composition Competition is aimed to select the best young composers.

The first edition of 2013, there were 21 applications with compositions for solo violin submitted for the consideration of the Jury (Magdalena Cynk, Dr Barbara Kaszuba, Dr hab. Robert Kabara). The jury decided to award three prizes: the first went to Tomasz Citak (for the composition entitled Kép), the second to Jan Sanejko (Confessions), and the third to Adam Porębski (Phant). The world premiere of the first prize composition will take place at the opening ceremony of the Fourth International Violin Competition on 19 February 2016; it will be Adam Siebers’ solo violin performance.

This year’s competition is organized by the City of Toruń, the Toruń Symphony Orchestra and the Pomeranian Musical Society. The Second Countrywide Composition Competition is aimed young composers who are less than 35 years of age as of the day when the competition begins. The Jury will select and award prizes to three compositions. All submitted scores have to present a one-piece virtuoso composition for violin and string orchestra. The members of the Jury are: Magdalena Cynk (the chairperson, the head of the Pomeranian Musical Society), Professor Zbigniew Kozub (the Academy of Music in Poznań), and Professor Andrzej Dziadek (the Academy of Music in Gdańsk). The results will be presented on 28 February 2016 during the Prizewinners’ Concert of this year’s edition of the Violin Competition. The first prize composition will be performed at the next edition in 2019.
